Just
Stitchin' is owned and operated by sole trader Louise Audet and was
established back in 2002. Louise studied Fashion and Design in her mid
20’s, then went on to establish her own children’s clothing brand until
the late 90’s. After her 5th child was born everything changed in the
household not to mention the sewing room! Suddenly there was more
colour and creativity as this was her first girl! Then came the love of
patchwork, applique and finally her niche’, naive stitchery. She
had
finally found what made her ‘tick’ in the sewing department. Louise
began making and designing cloth dolls and bears with best friend
Patricia Mallard. They both started out by selling their work through
many gift retailers. The pair worked together in partnership for 3
years until Louise moved away and the partnership dissolved. They
continue to work together regularly as the two remain best friends and
encourage each other in their work.
Louise’s
children were so interested in learning to stitch that she taught them
all. She found it really hard to find suitable projects for them to
learn, so with this in mind, she developed her own designs that appealed
to them for their age and ability. They were very excited about making
the stitcheries come alive! They have all entered projects in craft and
regional shows over the years and have won a variety of prizes. Last
year her son Noah won the 11-18 years category in the Homespun Inaugural
Young Designer of the Year competition. He designed and made his first
patchwork quilt.

After
the successful beginning with her own children learning to stitch in a
creative way, other children wanted to learn and so Louise began teaching
regular classes and workshops. Teaching is a passion of
hers. She loves seeing the satisfaction on people’s faces when their project is
completed as well as passing on skills and knowledge to anybody that
wants to give it a go.
